Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required for the scheduling, implementation and reporting of dam safety surveillance.Surveillance of dams is undertaken to ensure they are operating safely. Reports on dam safety are also required to meet the power generation facility's legislative requirements. Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan work, implement dam safety surveillance and complete safety surveillance reports. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator, in a power generation facility. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. Note: Workplace practiceThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Element: Plan and prepare for dam surveillance
  • Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, legislative requirements, industry standards, codes of practice, manufacturers’ specifications, environmental obligations and workplace procedures are identified, applied and monitored
       
Element: Resources are identified and obtained, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Industry standards and regulatory requirements for dam surveillance are identified and interpreted, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Monitoring frequency and sites for dam surveillance are determined, in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements
       
Element: Instrument requirements and data collection methods are identified, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Conduct dam safety surveillance
  • Dam safety surveillance processes and procedures are implemented, in accordance with workplace procedures
